Forgive me for thinking out loud about something that has been on my mind a lot lately. When and how did we get so religious? Religion is a strange thing. Some groups use religion to have an excuse to hate and even to kill. Because I am not part of their religion I am of the devil and it's alright with God if they put an end to my useless life. Not exactly the way God intended.
I have discovered that a lot of people in Britain are religious. They are baptized in the Church of England as infants and for many of them that's enough "religion" for the rest of their lives. It is religion with your weekends free.
The saddest thing to me is when we who call ourselves Christians let religion become the main thing. We put God in a box and take Him out when we want to show Him off. Our religion allows us to be selfish with what God has given us. Religion allows us to shun the untouchables of society. Religion says we don't have to love everyone, and even that God is alright with our prejudices. Don't you think God is disappointed with our religion? Wouldn't He rather us be followers of Jesus? To love like Jesus loves. To touch people like Jesus and not be afraid of them. Look at the verse above. Jesus is talking about religion. That's all it is when we only mouth our religion and our heart is not in it. How about we try being followers of Jesus. To do that there will have to be less talking and more walking.
